Dr. Martens, aka the “doc shop”

    • Click here for my map of the 3 factory shops close together in Earls Barton and Woolaston. Go to junction 15 of the M1, (NOT junction 15a) take the A45, direction Wellingborogh (the first sign at the roundabout is "Northampton", take that and then follow signs for Wellingborough) - then reset it to Barkers NN6 0NT in the first lay by or set to NPS or Doc shop postcode if you want to skip Barkers or it's a Sunday and Barkers are not open. That way you can avoid letting your satnav take you on a wild goose chase all round Northampton. (It happened to me when I visited Barkers.) My tip: if you use your satnav to take you from one shop to the other in Wollaston, give your satnav time to work out the route properly or use google maps on your smart phone. I find that my satnav gets confused when the destination is really close.
    • Tea room in high street. You will want to visit Awberry's tea room, in a lovely setting, right next to the Doc shop for some refreshment or something to eat and to sit down and fondle your purchases. Click here to see my video.
    • This map (click here) shows the 3 factory shops plus Joseph Cheaney in Desborough (and attractions options ) to make 4 outlier factory shops in total.
    • Options for my customers or inhabitants of Rugby, Coventry, Leictester etc. etc. doing my tour. Click here to see options at the bottom of this page.
    • Visit NPS also. I recommend a visit to NPS also if you are looking for Doc Martens boots and shoes. NPS now sell the “Heritage” line under the brand NPS Solovair. Don't buy until you have visited both shops! (In the same village.)
    • Dr.Martens, aka “the Doc shop”71 High St, Wollaston, Northants, Wellingborough NN29 7QE 7 days a week, 10 am to 5pm
    • Made offshore? Until recently, Doc Martens were all made in China and Thailand after the UK factories were shut down in 2003. In 2004 the company re-started production of the “Vintage” line in Wollaston (just outside Northampton), making 50 pairs a day by 2010. It's not clear whether some of the stock in the “Doc shop” is from offshore or whether it's all made in Wollaston. There are some serious bargains to be had, starting at £15. (Student heaven!) You can get useful discounts on multiple purchases.

    • “...And this is the strength and broad appeal of Dr Martens; it still manages to stay on the edge of mainstream as a youth brand that retains the capacity to shock by remaining resolutely anti-establishment yet somehow evergreen in its popularity. Not bad for a design that started life as an orthopaedic shoe....” From here
