Barrier Coating plus Non-Stick Coating for Land Rovers

What are the advantages of the non-stick coating compared to Waxoyl?
The Waxoyl treatment is still ideal for a vehicle with some rust – especially if the rust is very heavy. Waxoyl is about the only treatment that you can apply directly onto heavy rust with no preparation apart from thorough cleaning and know that it is going to stop the rust in its tracks for 2 or 3 years even in the case of heavy rust and for about 5 years in the case of light to medium rust. So if you have an older vehicle which is a little bit rusty, the Waxoyl treatment is still the ideal treatment.

The Non-Stick Treatment is an absolute must for new or nearly new Land Rovers especially if they are going to do a lot of off-road work or work in extreme Winter conditions etc.
If you have a new or nearly new Land Rover the new non-stick coating will preserve the underside in pristine condition just about for ever. In ten or fifteen years time you will still have a high gloss underbody that “looks a million dollars”. The new BarrierTect-StayKLEEN treatment is a huge step forward. To explain why these are such excellent anti-corrosive coatings it is necessary to understand that most coatings are “micro-porous” to some extent. It may seem surprising but water and oxygen do actually penetrate through most paints or coatings to a greater or lesser degree. That is why applying any kind of paint except “Hammerite” (or a similar coating) onto rust is totally ineffective. The rust will soon break through the coating.
The “BarrierTect” coating is a very tough “matrix” containing “laminar pigments”. What are laminar pigments? These are tiny flakes added to the paint. These flakes are microscopically thin in profile but are comparatively large in section. The advantage of this is that when the coating cures, these flakes are pulled tightly against each other and all line up to form an extremely effective barrier against moisture or oxygen. This makes for a fantastically effective anti-corrosive coating. Hammerite contains similar “laminar pigments” and most people know how effective Hammerite is in stopping rust. The disadvantage of Hammerite for vehicle underbodies though is that it is brittle and tends to chip. The “BarrierTect” is not brittle and will not chip.
On top of this coating goes the “StayKLEEN” coating. This is a tough, glass-like finish which is non-stick. Just like your frying pan nothing will stick to it! The non-stick constituent also has the advantage of being about the best barrier to moisture there is.

How long will it last? Guarantees?
“BarrierTect” Guarantee

Although no-one has applied this kind of coating to off-road vehicles before (because lower spec, cheaper and easier to apply coatings are used instead) , the technology is tried and tested and these coatings have been proven to work. In particular, similar coatings to the “BarrierTect” type coating have been in use for many years. For this reason – for new vehicles I can give a guarantee that no rust will appear on the chassis member for at least 10 years. If rust does appear I will re-treat it. From my experience of rust proofing several hundred Land Rovers I have noticed that unfortunately Land Rover are not as careful as they could be in making sure that everything is rust free before paint is applied. I have noticed for example that on the axle casings rust appears through the paint. In my opinion this rust does not appear because of damage to the paint. It occurs because the casing is rusting underneath the paint. Fortunately this does not seem to be such a problem on the chassis members and other fittings which is why I am happy to give a 10 year guarantee on these. I believe the “BarrierTect” will “encapsulate” the thin Land Rover paint finish so well and together with the “StayKLEEN” will provide such a good barrier however, that I am still prepared to give a three year “no corrosion” guarantee on the axle casings. My feeling is that axle casings will probably remain rust free for 10 years as well but I’m afraid I cannot stake my business on it. If rust does start to break through the coatings then this will be re-treated free of charge within the three year guarantee period and after that period the vehicle can be booked in just for these areas to be re-treated at a reasonable cost. (Special days will be set aside for this if/when necessary). I think the coatings will stand up to a certain amount of grounding but my guarantees will not cover damage which has obviously been caused by grounding.
“StayKLEEN”
The stayKleen coating is very new. However it has been thoroughly tested and I am confident it will last for many years. It is extremely tough and scratch resistant. Where it is used continuously in extreme off-road conditions it may lose some of its non-stick qualities over time. However, where this does occur, the vehicle can simply be booked in just to have the non-stick treatment renewed at a very reasonable cost. Special days will be set aside just for this treatment if/when necessary. Because I cannot know just how much extreme off- roading the vehicle is going to experience, I can only give a two year guarantee on the stayKLEEN coating. My feeling though is that on a vehicle which does not do too much off-road work the stayKLEEN should last for about 10 or 15 years. I think the coatings will stand up to a certain amount of grounding but my guarantees will not cover damage which has obviously been caused by grounding.

Price
This is a premium service which has cost a lot of money to develop so we make no apology for the fact that it is expensive compared to the Waxoyl treatment. Customers should bear in mind that the materials are very expensive and also that the application is very technical and takes 10 hours of extremely hard and unpleasant work . If you compare the price with having a re-spray (which is a great deal easier) I think most people will agree that the price is very reasonable.
Price for “BarrierTect-stayKLEEN” treatment including injection of Waxoyl in all cavities; chassis members, crossmembers, bulkhead “A” posts, doors etc. - £1,400 plus VAT for short wheelbase (90 etc), £1,600 plus VAT for long wheelbase (110, Range Rover etc)
Price for stayKLEEN “refreshment” (should only be needed on extreme-off road vehicles every few years) - £400
