Our “accelerated mud test” videos and video showing Nick Jennings’s KLEENtected Land Rover 90 after a year of hard off-road use are now available for viewing on this page..
Accelerated mud test:
I coated 3 test panels: KLEENtect, Waxoyl and aerosol black spray paint.
Mud was then applied to the panels, allowed to dry and then a hose was run on the muddy panels. This has been done six times so far (I intend to keep coating and washing, coating and washing until at least 100 tests have been done in this way – watch this space). You can view videos of some of the mud applications and wash-offs here -
Results after 6 tests:
The mud washed off very easily on the KLEENtect panel and on the painted panel. It tended to stick on the Waxoyl panel and complete removal of mud would have required jet washing. Each “wash off” damaged the painted panel and with each new application the painted panel looked rougher and rougher as more paint was damaged.
After the sixth “wash-off” I sponged the panels with warm water and a little fairy liquid and then wiped them dry with a cloth. Click here to see the results (photo). The painted panel was then clean of mud but looked very rough with about 30% of the paint removed and lots of rust on the paint damaged areas. After 100 tests I would expect the painted panel to be heavily rusted. The KLEENtect panel by contrast looks perfect after the 6 tests. There are no scratches at all on the surface and the surface has retained its high gloss - I expect the panel to still look perfect after 100 (or more) tests.
Video of Nick Jennings’ KLEENtected
Land Rover 90 after one year’s hard off-road use.
In this video you see Nick Jennings' vehicle arriving at Before 'n' After (click here - .avi video file, 3.40Mb). Nick's son John then operates the vehicle lift to hoist the 90 while I interview him and operate the video camera (click here - .avi video file, 4.81Mb). I video the underside of the 90 (click here - .avi video file, 5.07Mb), and then pressure wash the vehicle and shoot a video of the underside (click here - .avi video file, 1.60Mb).
KLEENtect after one year’s hard
off-roading:
While there was some mud sticking in various nooks and crannies it was much less than you would normally expect to see on a vehicle used extensively off-road and to clean it off took me just a fraction of the time it would have taken if the underbody had not had the KLEENtect treatment. Once cleaned, the KLEENtect coating looked as it did the day it was applied – a high gloss finish. There was no scratching or abrasion of the surface apparent and no chips or damage.
